Initial shots from my first visit with a camera. Working with a 6×7 and Kodak Portra 400 NC.

I was back today (16/3/10) and shot some more. Six rolls of 6×7 and 1 36exposure roll of 35mm to go through at the end of the week hopefully.

Really into Joel Tettamanti’s work at the moment. Interesting work about the affect that industrialisation has on the environment.

Sorry for the lack of updates recently. I have started working at the Sawmill. I had an initial intro. day with Archie last Wednesday (3rd March 2010). I visited again yesterday (8th March 2010) and started outside, slowly working in. There’s a lot of interesting quirks to this site. Going back up this week sometime to shot some inside. For this I need:

24mm Lens + 50mm lens for portraits.

Will have some work up by the end of the week.

On Monday I visited the sawmill. Ok, I was a little bit later than I should have been, but I didn’t get up until 12:30pm and I was feeling rather slow! I tried to contact Archie (my inside man) but he was out on site and unreachable! There is no bloody mobile signal up in the hills. I did talk with the forestry officer of Beecraigs though, who gave me loads of interesting info in relation to the park and the activities that go on there. I did leave with some new contact info and areas to investigate. Next Monday I am going to be there at 9AM to catch my man.

First off I guess I better explain what this project is about. I have chosen to photograph a sawmill. I will be working primarily at the Beecraigs sawmill, West Lothian. I have already secured access to this site and start work tomorrow (Monday 1st of February 2010). As part of my research into the timber industry in Scotland I have been looking at maps (via the Forestry Commission Scotland website). These maps can be viewed by clicking on the links below. I have also included some other links to research. This includes the Sawmill Survey 2000 and the Forest Industries Booklet for Scotland.
